“MIDNIGHT – THE ART OF MYSTERY, MAGIC AND MAYHEM”

In conjunction with our 2nd year anniversary celebration

ENTRY DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 30, 2008

The Poudre River Arts Center is pleased to announce an upcoming exhibit in celebration of their second year anniversary. In keeping with the premise of our grand opening in October 2006 (which fell on Friday the 13th), we invite you to join in our celebration by creating a work of art based on the following theme: ‘Midnight – The Art of Mystery, Magic and Mayhem.’

We are seeking works ranging from the whimsical to the macabre. However we are not interested in works with the sole objective of ‘shock value’ conveying images that are gratuitously gory, graphic, etc… Rather we are interested in the power of art in assisting humankind to cope with and/or transcend our primeval fears of death and the unknown. This would include works that portray frightening subject matter in a humorous, philosophic, historic, cultural or romantic manner.

CALENDAR:

Sept. 30 Entry Deadline – signed forms, fees submissions due at Poudre River Arts Center by 5pm Sept. 30th

Oct. 3 Opening Reception October 3, 2008 6pm – 9pm

Oct. 1-14 Show & Sale 10am – 5pm

Oct. 20 Unsold work must be picked up between 10am and 5 pm. Oct. 17th. Shipped entries will be returned by 5 pm on Oct. 20th.

SUBMISSIONS: Open to all media.

RECEIVING: Work should be hand delivered or shipped to Poudre River Arts Center on or before the entry deadline of September 30, 2008. Artwork must be submitted in reusable containers with enclosed return shipping label. Only submissions with physical street address included will be accepted. No P.O. Box address will be accepted. If shipper needs phone number for delivery issues, please use (970) 310-0906. Please use bubble wrap or foam rubber and rubber bands-no tape or peanuts. No wooden crates except for sculpture. If package weight exceeds $10 shipping fee, it will be shipped C.O.D. If you wish to have a receipt of delivery, please ship accordingly.

All fees are non-refundable

RULES:

  1. Please include submission(s), entry form, applicable entry fee made payable to Poudre River Arts Center for shipping to: 406 N. College Ave. Ft. Collins, CO 80524, Attn: Poudre River Arts Center: Call for Entries. Entries must be received by 5pm Sept. 30, 2008.
  2. Entries will be subject to approval of Poudre River Artists Association for appropriateness for show and sale to the general public.
  3. All entries must be original works by living artists.

JUDGING: Two awards will be granted. They are as follows: 1) People’s Choice Award 2) Best in Show – Jurors Award (per Poudre River Artists Association). Artist receiving Best in Show will be granted a two week solo show in the main gallery of the Poudre River Arts Center, which is valued at $300.00. Winning artist will be solely responsible for hanging the show, manning the gallery, publicity of the show, removing the art at the end of the exhibit and leaving the gallery walls in the original condition – free of nail holes and clean.

LIABILITY: All entries will be handled with care. However, the management of the exhibit and the Poudre River Arts Center will not be responsible for any loss or damage, and any insurance is the responsibility of the exhibiting artist.
